Mohs surgery is an outpatient procedure that provides the highest cure rate for most skin cancers – approaching a 98 to 99% cure rate. It is performed under local anesthesia and involves removing thin layers of tissue in an effort to preserve as much of the normal surrounding skin as possible. Sometimes several attempts are needed to completely eradicate the skin cancer during the day of the procedure. A microscope is used to guide the surgeon as the skin cancer is removed. Afterward, the surgeon reconstructs the defect where the skin cancer was, in the most aesthetic and cosmetically elegant fashion possible. Learn more about Mohs Micrographic Skin Surgery.
Melanoma is a skin cancer that is treatable with surgery in its early stages. Several forms of melanoma exist: in situ melanoma (limited to the top layer of the skin), and invasive melanoma (into the dermis or second layer of the skin). Some melanomas are treatable with the Mohs micrographic surgery technique, while others simply require excision of cancer with a specific margin of normal tissue. Occasionally a sentinel lymph node biopsy is indicated to fully characterize the tumor and consultation with another surgeon may be scheduled by Dr. Fulchiero. Your physician will determine which treatment is most appropriate to achieve the best outcome for your melanoma.

Office based procedure using ultramodern technology for the treatment of sun-damaged precancerous skin lesions, also known as actinic keratoses, without the need for surgery or chemotherapy creams. A medicated solution is applied to the skin and allowed to sit for 1-hour. Then the RED/BLU-Light is placed over the treatment area and allowed to react with the medicated skin for a short period of time. Usually, 2-to-4 treatments are required at one treatment per month. Most insurance companies cover this effective non-invasive therapy.
